I can appreciate that architecturally, a Sans might be the perfect thing for the spot you described. But although they can usually survive the experience indefinitely, Sans really don't thrive in dark corners, or do much at all, compared to plants with sufficient light.

Plants for a darker corner:
Philodendrons of various shapes and sizes
Dracaena 'Janet Craig'
Pothos (on a pole if you want a tall plant vs. a dangling one.)
Parlor palm (Chamaedorea elegans)
Cast iron plant (Aspidistra)

Are any of those appealing to you? They're fairly common, I think you would be able to find them in Canada. There's also a Canadian exchange on here, though I've never clicked in there to see how active it is.

These were the first sans I owned. Now I have only the smaller growing ones. Some of mine will reach 30 inches but really don't want them to. I just have no place to winter them over. With owing more and different kinds of sans. you have to cut what you are going to live with. I still love the tall ones.

My Sansevieria trifascata 'Silver Laurentii' is the tallest one I own. I gave a bunch of them away last year.

I have the ancestral form of S. trifasciata. It doesn't have the yellow margin like S. trifasciata laurentii, but my tallest one is about 4 feet. Currently there are no pups small enough for easy shipping, but there might be this summer. You'd have to pay packing and shipping costs. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find this plant in some of the big box stores in CA. I got mine from the garden department of a Walmart. I've also seen them in home improvement stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. Sansevieria might be different (might mostly come from Florida), but curiously, most succulents sold in the northwest US are grown in Canada. Strange but true.
