this is definitely not S. eilensis (which would have been real a treasure), but rooted leaf cuttings. It is hard to say which species it is. The most likely is S. cylindrica, but S. bacularis or S. canaliculata are also possible.

Please note that EVERY leaf will put forth 1-3 juvenile plants shortly, which will look totally different from the cylindrical ones. It will take time form them to mature and grow the cylindrical leaves again.

Cylindrica, will end up larger, rounder, and will have no channel. both of the others will end possible taller, narrow with a narrow, and a semi-flat channel. If you can find a S. eilensis will you please get me one as well, and I'll send you money. Send me a picture first, it is extremely slow in growth, fat and with short leaves for years, difficult to grow, the other two S. cylindrica is large than S.cananulata that you mentioned above are fast growing and easy to grow, each has a varietaged form, one has a miniature form. Easy to find as well. There are several forms of these easy to grow plants. S. eilensis expect to pay over $200+ don't buy it on Ebay they cheat with names. The other two are not worth more than $9.00 (for one rooted leaf,) for either unless variegated with both of mine are, perhaps more then. I don't sell plants, Norma

Helli, I couldn't bring the link up, I think that S. eilensis may be available in Europe. I will recognize the plant, and as a baby it will look different then when it is several years old. It may be part of the complex of S. hallii Norma

Thanks everyone for the answers. I believe the Sansevieria that I bought is S. bacularis or S. canaliculata. Well, this is the way newbie makes experience - keep buying the wrong plant.

@ Normal: Thanks for the description. I don't know that S. eilensis is so rare. I won't buy plants that cost $200+. My most expensive tree peony costs only 90 euro. If I happen to see someone selling S. eilensis in Europe, I'll send you his contact. I believe you already know this Hollander.

I probably do, I am very leary now buying on line. They either switch the plant that the picture shows, or put the wrong name on it. No faith in EBay sellers. Know your seller. Norma

personally, I would only buy S. eilensis from a reliable source. As I do live in Europe, this include Vivaio Brookside (Alan Butler), Al Laius, Cok Grootscholten and possibly the nursery Schleipfer. And several botanical gardens.

I looks nothing like bacularis, it looks like a shorter S. hallii , gray epidermis however. The Huntington has a full grown one the leaves, now I didn't measure them, from 6-8" long not folded when adult, channel wide and semi flat.I have seen this plant grown in water as well.

Europe, never again will I do so. Make sure it has a 2" rhizome or longer. I have gone that route already, been there done that. Norma
