I am going to have to plan out a garden that will be bordered on the south by a 5.5 foot wood fence. Everything I think of to plant near the fence seems to call for "Full Sun." I'm planning fill most of an area 19 by 26 feet, one of the 26 feet sides is alone that south fence, one of the 19s is alone an east fence, the west side is along the 1 floor house, leaving some space between house and garden out in these numbers, the north, which matters little for lighting, is bordered by a covered patio and a neglected lawn.

The area apparently once held an aboveground pool, we still have to remove river gravel and sand from the area, and I'm figuring on getting the soil tested just in case, and planning on piling on purchased compost and tilling in.

I wish my sister's house purchase had gone through faster, then maybe we could have found someone with a truck and loaded it with horse manure back in fall, in time for it to be plantable in spring. We may have to cut down the garden before it gets killed by frost in fall, to be able to plant some green manure crops in time to grow. At my house I waited and waited for the tomatoes to die, and then it was November, and hard to find time to get it tilled and planted.

Anyway, I've gone off on lots of non shade detail, main question remains, is there something good to plant in that kind of shade, or should we just move the compost to that side and leave it bare some distance from the fence?
