No, there is no northern stain. It is impossible to grow them in the north in a garden. They need 150 days to make harvestable fruit. If you have a heated greenhouse, then you could grow them.

Thank you for your help.â­ â¬I took some cuttings from myâ­ "â¬store bought chayoteâ­" â¬indoors and under lights earlier this year.â­ â¬I'll try to grow them out next year.â­ â¬Now,â­ â¬I do not need to waste a lot of time trying to securing a northern cultivar.â­ â¬I can work with what I have.

Yes it is always nice to hear successes gardeners get in other areas. Here in Texas the spiny ones start a lot easier than the slick shinny fruit. Usually the spiny fruit already have a root start. The plant does spread out over a large area.
