Harry Got A New Camera

I finally broke down and got the SLR camera I was talking about. While I don't yet know how to use it, my Nikon D50 can produce better pictures than my old point and shoot. I don't have many roses blooming right now, so excuse some of my off topic pictures.

And I thought your pictures before were wonderful!

Thanks gang. I need lots of encouragement to get over the guilt of spending big bucks for a camera. DW said to go for it, but its really just a toy. I did make sure to take pictures of my granddaughter at the seashore. I'll get my money's worth.

Now, how to get those roses to bloom and the remaining Japanese Beetles to leave?

Hooray Harry!!! I can just smell the Rotesmeer and Sweet Bouquet is lovely. Nice vacation shot too! I now apologize for calling you Beetle Boy. Thank you!!!

I'm so excited!! I'm a secret fan of your gardens so now I bet I'll get to see more pics! Woohoo! Great shots. I've tried several times to get humming bird shots, and all I get is fuzz. Great camera! Congrats on a good purchase.

The Nikon D50 is a basic SLR camera. It gives me 6.1 megapixels which is double my old camera. This gives me the opportuniy to crop and enlarge pictures. Although I did use my 200mm zoom lens to get the hummingbird, I still needed to enlarge the picture to make it impressive. It would have looked blurry and grainy with the old camera.

Color representation is much more accurate. Check these out side by side. The first picture below, taken with the old Fuji, of Rotesmeer has no purple tones. The second, taken with the Nikon, accurately captures the color.

    Zeffy,
It does not surprise me that you love Cape May too. All those Victorian houses with perennial gardens. All that antique furnitue. All those colors of house paint! We love it there.

Is the picture file too big? Can you open the other ones?

First impression was "this camera captures purple!",
and it does it even right.

    Great shots

These are outstanding pictures, the new camera must be a lot of fun!

Harry, I'm also a lurker-admirer too. Had to comment on the Cape May scene. I used to live there (was US Coast Guard). Its probably the most influential place in my life - it got me hooked on gardening for the last 15 years. Thanks for sharing that and making my heart ache for an old haunt of mine....

Harry, the Purple pavement picture is awesome. you got the color just right! The other pics are great too! Keep posting!

Caroline - I never thought to take my camera when I went into town (Cape May). I need to photograph those beautiful Victorian homes and the great perennial gardens.

Not much to photograph at home. Drought has slowed down the roses. The current monsoon should revive them for September.

The hummingbird pic is awesome...It looks like a picture from a magazine.
    Good Job.
