veggie & herb choices for containers?

I have decided I want to try growing a garden this year. However, as I'm renting a studio apartment, I'm limited to containers indoors. I have a large South window, though, and could fit at least a dozen large pots right in front of it. For more indirect lighting I can put another dozen on a shelf across the room.

My problem is indecision about what to grow. I don't like tomatoes, so those are out. I want at least 1 plant of strawberries, 1 sugar snap peas, 1 bell pepper (red or yellow, for stuffed peppers). Also mint, rosemary, lavender (for sachets) and maybe parsley.
Melon is good, but last I knew they were too huge for pots (or at least the ones my dad grew were, as he had an acre of land to use!)
I don't really cook much, so most of my stuff will be eaten raw.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

and just in case anything is poisonous to cats, everything will be enclosed in hardware cloth so they can't get to it. They have their catnip and a huge Boston Fern (which Nebula especially likes)
