WOW, we are neighbors! I just garden for fun, except in August when I garden just to learn new and colorful phrases for heat and drought. You know, the ones I can't use in polite company.

Aw come on, 20-something days of over 100 degree weather never hurt anyone! I was just at the Longhorns game today with my brother, and I think it was a better use of time than trying to get anything to thrive in this kind of weather. but that's a secret; I'm supposed to be doing this for a living!
