Name of plant

I had 2 plants for about 5 years that I lost to freeze this past winter. I can't find the plants, or any information on plants of that name, to replace them. They were bought at Home Depot & were named Rose of India. We grew them in large pots in mostly shade. They had beautiful shiny leaves & grew to about 4 ft. Throughout the spring, summer, & fall, they produced white flowers that looked very much like gardenias, but had no fragrance. Can you tell me what this plant could be? Thank you for your help.

Hi Luroe- Your description brings to mind 'Rose of Sharon' - hibiscus family. Do a search on it & see if the photo looks like the flower you described. If you go to Proven Winner site you will find 'Rose of Sharon" there.

I have 4 bushes 3 whites & 1 Lavender - the have the leaves you described & the gardenia like blossoms but delicate like tissue. Blooms start in July

If it really was "Rose of India" then the common name for it is Crepe-Myrtle. Rose of India is the exotic name for this plant, and it grows all over the state of Texas.

Luroe,

I grew a plant (actually a small bush) that fits this
description. It's called Indian Carnation and I also bought mine at Home Depot. Other names for this plant
are: Paper Gardenia, East Indian Rosebay, Crepe Jasmine,
and Fleur de Amore. It looks much like a gardenia but did not have a fragrance. I went on vacation and it missed
being watered and died. Beautiful bush!
