Steve, I don't see what zone you are in, but you probably don't need to cut them down at all...a few may be brown in spring and you can thin those out, but a crew cut won't be very attractive. Be careful with this rascal...mine jumped out of the pot, out of the pond, and is traveling across the yard as we speak.
