I have moved bleeding hearts in June; they looked like crap the rest of the summer, but came back fine the next spring. They were spectabilis; I have moved exemia too, and they took the move a little better.

If your friends aren't interested or don't have time to water daily for a week or 2, waiting until it cools off might be good. It takes a lot of coddling to move plants in the heat.
