Podyphyllum

Has anyone here grown May Apple? I bought a small plant and planted it in late April, in partial shade. Soil is amended peat moss, mushroom compost (cow manure probably), gypsum to break up the clay soil, and some of my own garden clay. Is has very good drainage among other part shade plants, like ferns and hosta.
The leaves have died back until there is only one little tiny leaf. Is this normal growing habit for this plant? It has been getting very hot in Oklahoma, and I thought that maybe this is a cool weather plant that goes dormant when the temps increase.
Thanks for any help...Oh, I might add, I bought it retail mail-order, but there was no information on the habit of the plant other than it liked part shade and well-drained soil.
