In my shady backyard I have Hosta, ferns, vinca minor, jack-in-the-pulpit. There are many shade-loving plants and flowers. I`m sure you will get alot more ideas! Another pretty shade lover is Lenten rose (Helleborus orientalis) It has pink or white flowers in winter and spring. Good luck and happy gardening! Tonia

I have alot of shade and have hosta -- lots and lots of hostas, ferns, astilbe, lily of the valley, bleeding hearts, and lamium. Lamium is a creeping type of ground cover with variegated leaves, as is snow on the mountain, which also does well in shade. My coral bells also are doing well in shade. The lamium has amazed me, it grows really quickly in the shade. I've divided my clumps already from this spring. For annuals, I plant begonias in my shady areas for color. I don't know how these plants will work for you in Texas, ask a nursery in your area if they're available to you. Good luck!
