how is the wail finish achieved? Is is metal and rust and acid or is it painted on? Really like it

I too would love to know how this look was achieved. I'm looking to do a very very large wall in a commercial building with this look. Please share your technique.

@ Dawn Yorke. It's interesting stuff to work with. I finished my wall last week. Did several practice boards and there are several ways to change the rust, depending on how you apply the paint and the activator!

What color of paint did you play with?
no color really, the link above shows what and how. It's an iron particle black paint that is painted on a primed wall. Drywall, sheetrock whatever it's called in your part of the country. Then there is an activator that is very thin, like water, that you spray over the black at certain times. This causes a chemical reaction and in about 12 hours you have the real rust. Yes, it's REAL. It comes off on your clothes, furniture everything is you do not seal it with polyurethane. It was really fun. Slight learning curve that is why i did 9 practice boards. You see the difference in color, and streaking? This is caused by how the black is applied and then how the activator is put on. Sprayed, or painted. the one on the far right, I allowed the black to sit much longer than the other two in the pic and I achieved a darker rust. So, my theory is the sooner you spray the wall after the black paint dries, the more orange you will get. The longer, the more brown it will be. I love them both!

It can be done on any surface that is paintable. ( according to the can)

Great looking wall treatment, but if/when you want to repaint, what will that entail?

I had so many questions back in 2012! I remembered your picture and explanation, or at least most of it, through the years but I could never remember whether I saved the information in one of my idea scrap books, magazines, my many saved websites. I just happened to be deleting some sites and caught a glimpse of your beautiful wall again. Perfect timing as I'm in the process of buying the perfect house for this look! Thank you again!!
