I'm in zone 9, too, and have never found fruits or berries that will thrive in full shade. Plants need lots of sun before they will flower and produce fruit, whether it's tomatoes, squash, oranges, blackberries, or anything else. Sorry. Heat isn't a problem for things that were developed for this area, though they don't produce fruit at this time of year. That means, if you want apples, grow a variety that's developed for this far south, such as Anna or Golden Dorset, rather than Gala or Delicious.
