Square Foot Gardening

What To use For Edging?

Hello

We would like to try the square foot gardening this year to save space. However we are not sure what would be best to use for the perimeter. Not Only does it have to be functional but according tot he wife, it has to look decent to. I would appreciate some ideas. Thanks

It's really according to how much you want to invest in it. Cedar is one of the longest lasting materials, but is quite expensive. Most use treated wood, and the outer part can be stained to your liking. Just don't stain the inside part (that comes in contact with the soil), because your plant roots might absorb some of it. Plastic can also be used, if you can find some that would be suitable.

I do not know if you are a DIYer like EG and I, but assuming that you are and have Amish in your area. A close friend of mine had the Amish saw telephone poles for him. He ended up with beautiful red cedar for 20 cents per bf including planning.
