I think that the existing footprint will work just fine. Certainly it fits the yard layout a lot better than trying to do a north-south orientation.

With any kind of garden, you'll just want to be mindful of where the shade will be cast by any tall plants or vertical crops that you grow. In the layout that you have, I would place them on the northwest and along that long edge nearest the shed.

Plants that wouldn't mind a little shade can be grown nearer to the tall stuff, where they would get a little shade as the sun makes its trek across the summer sky.
