As Fall turns into Winter..,

According to the NOAA weather people our temperatures will be dipping down to 18 degrees on Friday night. Followed and preceded by several nights around the 20's. I'm thinking the party is about over for my roses so I thought I better get a few shots for this fall while I can.

Beautiful pictures and I love your cat. I've always wanted a cat.

Thanks! You know anyone who is kindly disposed towards kitties should run right out and get two of them. One isn't enough, they need a playmate. Go for it!

    I can't. I have Jeff.

I understand completely. Jeff is one handsome boy indeed. Look at that sweet face!

Beautiful roses Kate and your pics are all very good of them. Nice bright colors and some of them look frosty already...18 huh, I think I'll keep my 80's:) Playgold and Dresdon Doll are looking very nice especially, I haven't seen many pics of them, how have they done over the season? I really like the pics of Iced Ginger and Mary Rose though.

Have you seen any frost blankets in the store yet then, at the larger hardware stores like HD or Lowe's? Hard to imagine you're shoring up for winter and it's still fall flush for me after a very long summer. Tahoe sounds good though:)

Hey Les. Thank you. Yes this morning was not exactly tropical, right around 40 degrees:) You know Playgold has become a favorite in its first season out there. I just love it. A wee smidge of blackspot but constant blooms and I love the blended colors. Dresden Doll has been nice. Good form and consistent blooms but Playgold has more. I'd buy them both again. You would like Playgold I think.

The only frost blanket I have is the one you gave me (thank you). I have to look. Not sure there is much I can do with all the roses I have now besides accept what Mother Nature has in store with some grace, if possible. You know I bet Tahoe is just gorgeous right now. Fall up here is really pretty.

Kate, 18 degrees!?! Brrrr.....that is too cold! We are suppose to get into the 40's tonight but the temps during the day are in the high 60's, which isn't too bad. Its good seed popping weather...LOL.
Your Iced Ginger is very pretty, and your cat is so cute, does he stay outside all the time?

Lana, How old is Jeff? He looks like a good guard dog. Very alert!

Jeanie, Jeff is 13 years old.

    Thanks RamblinRosez:

Yes we are going to have a little cold snap. But like you today was just gorgeous. Around 77 degrees, no wind, blue sky, perfect. Almost time to plant bulbs.

Thank you for nice words about Iced Ginger. New this year from Euro Desert Roses. I like it so far. Kitty is indoor/outdoor. Once we start heating the house with the woodstove he barely gets more than four feet away from it all winter long. I let all the felines run around a lot during summer but we keep them locked inside more during the winter.

I eyed both of those roses in Jan & in Mar, Playgold and Dresdon Doll, I think I'm sorry I didn't get them. Interesting though it was DD that had the BS and I'd asked about it and was told it was a bit of a problem which is why I didn't. That's an odd problem to have right here too. Still I haven't seen much of these roses this season and seeing your pics of them, I think I missed out. I'll be watching for these two next season:)
I forgot to comment on your kitty, I like this pic of him very much. Do I want to say his name??:)

I enjoyed all your pics very much and had to come back and look again Kate, thanks for posting them.

Les in case you have not checked yet it looks like Nor'east carries both so when you order those roses you thought you did not have room for from them next year you can pick up one of each:) So far Dresden Doll is the larger of the two plants although I can't wait for both to grow up. DD is easily the cleaner of the two. Playgold grows much more densely. But considering that I don't do anything about blackspot except occasionally mutter to myself about it the situation with Playgold is very manageable.

Glad you enjoyed the pictures of the Dirt kitty. Yes, an undignified title for one so handsome. Note to self, don't let the ex husband name your cat.

    Thanks Leslie.

Kate, your roses look great. I have my eye on Dresden Doll. I find it so interesting how the weather changes in CA so drastically. Low 20's, ack. Here we usually ease into winter. I'm glad you shared your roses and kitty. Our new kitty is light orange also.

    Hey Carla.

Thank you. I have greatly enjoyed Dresden Doll, I think you would like it. If you decide to get it from Nor'East they are going to have other Ralph Moore roses that are not yet listed on their website so be sure and ask if you're not finding something.

The weather we are having right now is really early. Normally we don't have a good freeze until right before Halloween. Because we are up in the mountains we are more prone to temperature swings than a lot of CA.

Thanks for the photos you sent about your kitty. I love him/her. Adorable.

Your roses are beautiful, and so is kitty Dirt. As is Jeff, beautiful boy.

I can't imagine 40F though--it is 90F here right now and I can't even go outside, too hot. Stay warm in that 18F. I guess you must get a vacation from gardening for the winter where you are.

    Hey Hoov.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes the Dirt boy and Jeff really steal the show don't they? Since Carla just had a 'baby' I'm hoping she might put her pictures up here too. Even though it is contraband:)

Remember this one from last year Hoov?

It was sunny and about 70 today and going right down to 30 tonight. Feels like Fall no question.

Hey Kate! Love the roses, but the kitty is just too cute! And I haven't seen my stellar jays for awhile. Nice to see yours!!

    Hey Beth.

Nice to hear from you. You guys have the jays also then. They are kind of the thugs of the garden here but I still enjoy them. They are into absolutely everything and have very little if any fear. They are so vocal too, constantly telling each other what they think:)

Yes I remember that, but I can't imagine that!

My sister and her little dog in Alaska can imagine that:

Maybe Santa Ana winds are not so bad after all...

Great pictures! Can't believe it's gonna get that COLD this early! WOW! We used to have some snow here in Northern Ga. but the last few years have been rather mild. I'd LOVE to see at least one good snow a year. Maybe not quite like yours or Hoov's sister though. Four inches would be JUST fine! LOL! It sure does make for pretty pictures though. April

Hoov that's a great picture. Yes puppy seems quite at home there in piles of the white stuff.

    Hey April.

I know, that's cruel isn't it? Winter arriving so early and all. Definitively have the woodstove going tonight although they did raise the temperature overnight to 30. I'm happy you enjoyed the photos.

What a super thread. I nearly died when I saw the snow Kate, I thought it was right now. heehe! Anyhow some of your roses look like they have frost on them, tell me it is not so. I love the way you took these pictures pending a big weather change and everything disappearing. Hopefully, that did not happen.

Loved the variety of pictures you took which looks like in a sense you were fearing it is all going to be over for a while. It is hard to imagine that happening yet when you live in California. Hard to digest! Good pic of the Blue Jay. They are the hardest damn birds to take pictures of. I have tried, boy have I tried. I will look in my gallery one of these days to see if I actually, out of near 100, got one good photo!

Markiz - I ADORE Jeff, I could steal him in a moment! I would love to smooch and cuddle him. He is a heart throb!

.........and Hoove, you Southerncalifornianite, how funny that your sister lives on the opposite end of the spectrum!! Anyway, fabulous Alaskan picture. That must be a rich little Hoov, he has a house and and an igloo. What a fabulous picture. Is he a Hoover cousin???

I have to show you a picture of my beautiful Springer Patrick in the snow. Damn, alas it was taken with my old camera, so I will have to scan it. Hohum, another day! It is getting late.

    Thanks Kate,

    Hey Pauline:

Thanks for your post. I'm sorry I did not see it until last night because my week was so crazy. Yes ma'am, that would be frost on the roses. This whole week has been cold at night although only down in the mid 30's. I'm hoping to get out there today and see what/if anything is still blooming.

I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. I'd love to see a picture of your doggy.
