I'm going to build raised beds this spring in a limited space, so larger materials like concrete blocks are going to take up too much of that valuable space. I'd like to use salvaged wood, preferably redwood or cedar for their ability to withstand rot and bugs. I live in Reno, NV, so California and Oregon are relatively close producers of that sort of salvaged wood.

I have locate a couple of retailers for salvaged wood, but the prices are similar to what you would spend at a big box for newly milled lumber. I know much/most of the salvage is old growth, so I would expect relatively high prices for quality wood, but I'm just interested in any old tatty looking redwood or cedar that will hold up for a few years longer than pine or fir. Reusing lumbar is also important to me, so, while price is definitely a consideration, it's only one of several.

Does anybody out there have any suggestions on where one might locate such salvage or perhaps have any other materials suggestions that might be helpful?
