After a couple of hours at our local nursrey, we decided to plant a pin oak in our front yard. All the reading we did suggested it was a good fit for what we wanted. After planting it, a friend of our neighbor's who had stopped by laughed at out tree and said we were going to get sap all over our cars when the tree gets tall enough to hang over the driveway. Is this true? All the research we did on the tree did not indicate that the Pin Oak drops sap.

Also, if the oak has to go, then I'll move it to another part of my yard, but that still leaves me needing a tree. I need a shade tree that's fairly fast growing but who's roots won't destroy our driveway. We'd like something that doesn't drop a lot of junk (we took out a Jacaranda because of the mess), but would like some shade. Any suggestions? I'm in Orange County, Ca. I don't know my zone, but the temps here will range from the 90's in the summer to the high 60's in winter, sometimes 50 at night. Thanks for any advice!
