I used something called EMT pull elbows. I bought them at Menard's. I think they were about a dollar each. In the link below they're the ones in the top-middle of the picture. I wonder if an electrical supply store would have them?

I found the elbows in the plumbing dept at Lowes for 50 cents. They have threads insdide on both ends and hubby just drilled holes and screwd them to the conduit so they would stay steady. Worked great.

Dan - figuring the take up on back-to-back 90's is almost impossible for the ordinary gardener - even if they had a hand bender. Just think about how big the scrap pile would be...hehe.

All you need for a ~6' w x 6' h trellis is to get two bends on separate pipes close, then a spacer in the middle which is easily measured.

Dan - You use a coupling in the middle? I'm surprised....I was talking about using 1 piece of conduit with no coupling - which would only be good for a little over 4ft tall.

Dan, those look great! I assume that is cattle panel in the middle as the actual trellising? I really like the fact that you painted them out to blend in with the brick wall. I will probably do the same, though mine will be either white (to match my boxes) or green (for obvs reasons).

Thank you Cynthia, some are cattle panel and some are remesh (for concrete). Each has its advantages, but the BH likes the cattle panel as they look a little better. I also like the trellises a little taller (I'm 6' 2") as the plants will take all the room you give them.

I got my conduit at Lowes and the salesman offered to bend them for me as I didn't have a bender. He made it look easy, but was a retired contractor and bending tubes for many years.

I used pvc for my trellis. I put rebar in the top to add strength for my melons and used re-mesh for my netting.

pvc is cheap and in 10' lenghths.

I tried pvc once, didn't think to reinforce with rebar, but it didn't hold up to the sun and wind very long. I did wind up using the pieces as markers for the bed.

UV radiation degrades PVC.

I normally use the electrical pvc (grey). And I have been using the same sections for well over 5 years now. So seems to hold up find and in the summer they get sun from 5am until about 8pm.
