African Sumac

I have a number of African Sumacs (Rhus Lancea). In some of the trees, the leaves on a particular trunk have fallen off and the bark is debarking. I assume this is draught related, as I am not present all the time to constantly observe the activity. Yet the Sumacs are reportedly draught tolerant and I have no such problem with other trees on the same irrigation line that reportedly require more water. Could this possibly be a symptom of Texas Root Rot? Has anyone else had similar problems.
