Trellis question

Got your attention, EG? :) Seriously, this question is for anybody. I built a trellis using 2x4's attached to my raised bed, but when I went to Lowe's I couldn't find any trellis netting or wire fencing (with wide enough openings) so I just had to buy a coil of plain wire to make it myself. I also got some little U-shaped metal fasteners to attach it. What I'm wondering is how wide should I make the openings in the trellis? I am planning to grow tomatoes and canteloupes on it. Thanks for your help!

Ha! That's funny...If you can reach it from both sides of the bed, anything between 2" to 6" will work great. Mine are 2"x3"

I just run a string down to my plants with jute twine. Mel talks about how to do this in his 1st book. Just wind the plant around the string as it grows. Works like a charm. I use string for any plants I trellis now.
