Coir is ground up coconut husk.

I'd suspect that leaching the tannins out of the coir would be difficult at best.

TM, how fine is the coir? In trying to rinse it, is hard to avoid having the coir get "washed away"?

Definitely have had some washed out when I first tried the soak and squeeze it dry. That is until I found a very fine plastic sieve and have been able to sieve the coir out of the water with minimal loss.
This particular sieve is flat bottomed and may have been a part of a kitchen utensil set but I cannot recall.
I sieve out the coir and then squeeze it while in the sieve and then reseive the drained water which will have some suspension of the coir.
If you need an image of the sieve let me know and I will see if I can dig out the sieve.
