Square Foot Gardening

asparagus

my jersey giant asparagus is turning a yellowish color and looks like it is dying. i planted crowns last year. it came up good this spring but does not look good now. any suggestions? i am concerned my 10 inches of mix may be to shallow for root system. thx

Sounds like a nutrient deficiency from the info provided. Did you plant according to standard directions, or just plop in the mix, cover, and call it good? And I agree that 10" is pushing it.

Asparagus are heavy feeders and very deep rooted, I would say that 10" is cutting it in half. Also check the PH, asparagus likes sweet soil.
