I made the discovery today that I have scale insects in one of my terrariums. I have a terrarium next to it that has a heavy infestation of them, but I had thought that they would not travel. I picked off several leaves that had more of them, and decided to see what the scales looked like under a microscope. When looking at them under the microscope, I found that the plants have spider mites on them, too. I have a suspicion that this is why most of the ferns that were in the terrarium died a few months ago. So, on to the questions. Do spider mites like moss? I.E., do I need to worry about them attacking my moss in this terrarium? Also, what likes spider mites and scales for supper? Would a ladybug both like them and do fine in the more humid environment? What else would be effective (and non-toxic) at getting rid of them? I am guessing that diatomaceous earth wouldn't do much, given the humidity in there. Also, what can I do to prevent this from happening in the future?
