I would suppose, if they were a thornless hybrid that you could do so without too much trouble, just make sure that enough of each plant can get it's share of light as the plants in the middle may be crowded out by the other, outer canes.

If they are *not* the thornless variety, not being able to access the bush from all sides could produce very lovely but unreachable fruits in the center of the thorned canes.

I'm thinking the previous poster was thinking of raspberries? I've never heard of a thorned blueberry either.

I'm wondering about blueberries in my SFG. I have a 3x2 area on a corner of one of my beds that is empty. I've heard they need acidic soil though. Should I bury containers so that I can tweak the soil the way they like it or just work with the soil in that corner to get it right?

My general advise for things like this is to not manage them from a SFG approach even if they are in the area of a SFG. Blueberries are permaculture plantings with specific soil and planting requirements.

Thanks, Ray. i guess I should have said that. i wasn't planning on growing them in Mel's Mix. Just wondered if the intensive/closely packed/shallow soil thing would work for them.
