Where do you put corn and pumpkins?

I have 3' wide beds for much of the garden, but don't I need a bigger area for corn and pumpkins? Does anyone plant them in a double bed or maybe a separate area?

Also, has anyone grown potatoes in tires, rather than raised beds? I'm trying to get ideas for my kids' area :)

I made a stackable box for potatoes. I would not use the tire thing because of possible contamination. My box was made with 2x4 and cedar fence pickets.

I grow winter squash, pumpkins and melons in a separate area. They pretty much take over that part of the yard, and it's easier to just let them do that than to try to control them in the SFG.
