Fraid I can't recommend any books to you, but if you come across one, let me know. I'd be happy to give one a perusal. Only ones I have read were rather pathetic but that was a long time ago.

Creating "a self-sustaining sealed terrarium" is a nice idea but pretty much hokum. A truly a self-sustaining sealed terrarium presents many obstacles.
1) The air in a sealed terr will be stagnant, which in turn creates highly favorable conditions for molds. (Many of which prove harmful to the plants therein.)
2) Providing suitable light within without "cooking" the plants (light & heat too strong) or winding up with weak etiolated plants (light too weak) is typically difficult to impossible.
3) Plants GROW ... unless conditions are really crappy. This means they will outgrow the container at some point. At which time the container must be unsealed in order to prune or the terr is scrapped.

Occasionally someone on the net will claim to have a "self-sustaining sealed terrarium" that they've had untouched for 30-50 yrs but without proof, I say "balderdash!"

Now if all you want is a temporary/short-lived (lasting months not years) display type terr, then, yes, it can be done. The one you posted a URL for is a prime example. It does indeed look cute, but it is not a long term viable set up.

I just read a book called "Tiny World Terrariums". I found it informative and inspiring. I borrowed it from the library. You will have to find out the authors - I know it is two girls who run a business in NY.

Wow! They must be very ahead of their years. Usually girls are too young to even get a business license.
