Im an expert on old bottles... a lot of this is not about plants though! This is a water jug dating around 1880.Your jug is not suitable for plants. The glass is too dark for plants.(Since this is not suitable as a terrarium, you should try this cool trick:this glass was made with manganese, so putting a light on it or putting it near light will cause it to turn a deep purple, this is too dark for most plants. Try getting a black light and putting it near it so it will turn a deep purple. Its really pretty.) However, it MAY be suitable as a temporary terrarium but use only low light plants...Even these need 'alot' of light, the amount of light they need will turn the glass purple, which blocks light. So this would only be temporary. All this sounds confusing, I'm sure...

Thanks so much for the info. I had planned to just throw in some potting soil and seeds, instead I will set it in the sunlight, once it stops raining, and watch it turn purple!

This bottle had to be made between 1880 to 1914 to be one with manganese in it. I doubt it but possible. They also put several other minerals and metals in glass bottles. Led, Zink, copper and a few others. Placing it in the sun is one way to find out which. Don't spill anything cold on it when it,s in the sun. It could shatter. Try building a wooden ship in it. It's tedious work but if you've got the time it can be done.
