Haha Newbee mistake with garden pest!

I was only boasting the other day that my Sq Ft garden had gone unmoslested, by my twins aged 4 as they can clearly see the areas planted unlike my traditional one! well!!! they have been asking everyday if the food is ready and today I noticed that the radishes could be pulled up so I asked them if they wanted to pull them up? great game as some haddn't developed and when they got one that was they would screak! "I got one!" like they where fishing it was fantastic, I bet you can guess where this is going? 10 mins later one of them comes in with a armfull of ripped up potato storks, decapitable melon, inoccent tiny snap peas, and spinch! he looked so proud of himself, "mummy I helped you get the food!"

thank goodness he has tiny arms or I would have been in trouble the only thing with roots left was the spinch, replanted it but don't hold much hope it will survive!

I couldn't be cross, but hopefully he remembers, ONLY pick the stuff mummy tells you!!

Oh, but sooooo sweet!!! You may not have as much yield from this year's garden, but you will have a great memory. I hope you got a picture of the "Spring Harvest!!!"

My youngest is 13 now, so those fun days of "newness" is over, but there is still tons of fun!!

Thanks for the story! Now I know what kind of game NOT to play with my 7 year old! She is very fascinated with the garden since we have never had a real one since before she was born. She isn't fascinated enough to help but that's OK with me :)

Same thing happend with my kids. My eldest harvested half the carrots instead of one. Learning experience for sure.

My girl does this. I have about 10 seconds to get to her after she signals by saying 'bite, bite?'

Great stuff. It happens to all of us with kids! My son (3 years old now) got interested in the garden when I was watering last year. All he wants to do is "give them a drink so they can grow VERY big!"

In the long run though, you made a great trade off. You may have lost a few plants to an overzealous youngster, but you probably have helped him gain a lifelong interest in the garden! That's more than fair compensation, if you ask me!
