Yes it would. That is until it overtook it completely. If you are starting a cutting it's ideal but I wouldn't count on keeping it in there forever.

If you're thinking of putting one in your little bottle terrarium, forget it! All orchids appreciate some air circulation, so not only would that be virtually nonexistant in a little jar, but it would also grow so fast (if it had enough light and if it didn't rot first) that you'd have to take it out in a couple months. This would mean re-doing your entire bottle terrarium, because the roots would just pull all of the substrate up with them. And I don't know how much you know about orchids, but they don't generally like to be growing in potting soil that regular houseplants like. It makes the roots rot.

Vanilla orchids do grow best in ordinary potting soil.
I know because I grow several.
They love the water and high humidity.
