The best way is to boil it providing you have something big enough to fit it in.

The problem with boiling its breaks the wood down that is OK for Terrariums but not for Aquariums.

I believe a soaking in bleach will do the job but I have never used it.

A strong salty water is also said to be good

have used the oven on a low temp natually ,under 200 for around 30 minutes will get rid of most any thing, Wood will be very dry but you can rehydrate with some distilled water

When boiling for aquarium use,you boil,let cool,check water surface for petroleum "sheen",throw out the water and replace with fresh and repeat until there is no sheen.

I found some nice pieces for the terrarium. I had to bake them in the oven because the pieces of bark were too fragile to boil. I sprayed them down with neem oil, wrapped them in foil and baked them for an hour. I hadn't planned to leave them in the oven that long but I forgot I'd put them in there. I think they look ok though. Thank you for your input.

The oven method works well but SOAK the wood first to hydrate it. Then put it on a pan and -- if the piece is not too large -- cover it tightly with foil. You can then bake it for about 45min to an hour at 350F. The steam produced will help sterilize the wood while the wood will not get excessively dry.
