The simple answer is to only put the trellis on the far north side of your yard so nothing behind it is shaded. That's the method I did.

The complicated answer could involve timing of the height of the southern trellis plants and the need for shade in the northern bed. I am too new at this to make that call. But some day I may use this to extend the life of lettuce into summer if that's at all possible.
