Ione, Your place in Lebanon sounds lovely! My Aunt owns some property just outside the Cedars of Lebanon State Park. It really is beautiful there. Cedar loves limestone. So the magical connection between you and nature has already begun. I still discover new wildflowers every year and have been here for fifteen years. Rock does have something to offer you see. Enjoy! I like that place more every time I visit. So much new stuff to learn!

I'm only about 10 miles from the state park. I plan to go down there and see if they'll sell me some books about cedar glades! And I've emailed the prof who heads up the "Center for Cedar Glade Studies" at MTSU to see how concerned I should be about meddling with the glade area by planting additional plants in it.

Heck, I may even have genuine TN coneflowers back there. You never know!

Are you on one of the 'natural' prairies, where the soil is so thin that there are almost no trees?
(I've often wondered how old some of the trees are...natural bonsai potential there.

I can't really tell what's "natural" vs. man-made grassland around here.
