I'm a little skeptical that scarecrows really work, but perhaps there are some other methods of dissuading birds from sampling your garden. Aside from shotguns, I mean.

Can you try hanging an owl near your garden? My neighbors had some pesty birds that pecked on their windows LOL. They got a few of those plant hanging rod things and hung fake owls on them in front of the windows. The birds never came back.

It was probably a Mockingbird. They always try to raid my strawberry bed. Cardinals will also sometimes will peck the strawberries. You may want to get bird netting to put over the strawberry bed.

The birds ate all my first strawberrys too! Bird netting seems to be working. Now I just have to wait for more to grow. By the way, they also ate our early season seadlings- peas, spinach, and lettuce.

Same thing happened to me last year. How irritating.

This year, I've hung a bird feeder in the yard and am now waiting for that first berry to fully ripen. So far, so good.

I had the squirrels and the birds after my strawberry patch last year. Bird netting seems to do the trick for both of them luckily. Even if the strawberries stick outside of the netting, they don't bother them anymore.

I have read some birds may get tangled in the netting though. So if you choose that route and wanna be safe, just make sure the netting isn't really loose.
