Square Foot Gardening

Staking Squash in Sq. Ft. beds

I plan to try staking some summer squash, zuchs and cukes in our sq. foot raised beds this year. After reading about this on the forums, am going to try inverted tomato baskets with gardening twine squares behind them, and growing more shade loving veggies like radishes and carrots in same bed. Can't wait to see how it goes!

Sounds good. The radishes are a great companion for squash and cukes; they tend to deter bad bugs, They also will keep carrot flies away.

Are you putting a wire tomato cage upside down over the squash? I have squash/zuchinni,'radishes, carrots, sweet taters, pumpkins, and some other stuff in my sfg and this sounds like it might work a bit better than my upright tomato cages.
