cut worms?

Chipmunks did this to my corn. I had to replant twice, the last time under hardware cloth to discourage the chippies. They were also digging up my pumpkins, winter squash and cucumbers.

Could be birds, or maybe even cutworms. Birds love corn, and cutworms eat anything. For the birds, try a chicken wire cage over the planting bed. For cutworms, try a toilet paper roll cut in half sunk around the seed, with an inch or two above ground.

I was beset by either groundhogs or raccoons, probably the latter. It would knock the stalks down to get the ears.

Use collers for cutworms. Chipmunks, raccoons, and groundhogs are compostable soil builders. Deer pull corn down too but they are freezer friendly additions to our diet. Even then, the gutpiles are compostable. ;)

I think it was birds or squirrels. I suspect birds. I put a chicken wire cage over the survivors and nothing else has bothered them.
