A post is bumped to the top again whenever someone replies to it, Gail. Is that what you meant?

Posts will stay at the top until they have a reply. Then they start to sink as other are bumped to the top by their replies. Busier threads stay near the top. Ones that have gone dormant sink to the bottom.

A couple of more points that may help. The actual formula that determins which posts (without response) are moved down and how soon they are bumped down, is a little complex. Slower forums (ones that have fewer recent threads) will hold such posts at the top for quite some time, while busy forums (ones that have many recent threads, like the Seed Swap Forum) will bump down such posts rather quickly. Other factors also go into this formula.

Once a thread is replied to, it's order is determined by the time/date of the most recent response to it.
