alison70-your cukes are bitter from not enough water. my first 2-3 cukes were sweet (burpee sweet burpless), then after that they turn bitter. Water until you start to see runoff. Once they turn bitter there is not much you can do. I tried to pull one while still young (4-6"), but that did not help. So not enough water is the problem.
