Are these seedlings still inside or outside hardening off or planted inground already.

Witrh the rain we've been having if they're outside it's quite possible that they could have a foliage disease or two.

But I can't ID folaige diseases from what you've said since the lesions/spots on the leaves help make the diagnosis in terms of size, shape, color and whether there are or are not yellow areas around the spots.

I wouldn't expcet tou to find a lot of info by doing a search on "spots", LOL, but I would have hoped that you had found the thread here called Problems Solver # 2 which is here on the first page.

Go to that thread and find tyhe link to TAMU and try to match up the pictures with what you're seeing.

The four most common causes of foliage diseases are:

Early Blight ( A. solani)
Septoria Leaf Spot
Bacterial Speck
Bacterial Spot.

....so i'd look at those first.

I also ger random spots on foliage from time to time and it isn't disease at all, rather just envionmental "who knows what", which I know isn't that helpful/

So knowing where these plants have been and where they are now is useful info to know.

Hi Carolyn...thanks for responding.

The seedlings were winter sown, and have been outside since they began. They germinated around 20-30 days ago, have seen no frost, and have been kept sufficiently moist. They were gradually uncovered (plastic on cold frame gradually removed) and, as I said, are healthy in every other regard.

I took a glass to them, and a few of the spotted leaves show some signs of some sort of miner, with fine little tracks. The spots are on only 6-8 plants out of 100+.

The plants have just been potted up from the 1.5" square, 3" deep plant bands they were germinated in, to 3" square 7" deep plant bands. Original medium was straight no-ferts ProMix. New medium is 50/50 no-ferts ProMix and finished compost. Stems were buried 2/3 - 3/4 on transplant.

I'll look at the problem-solver, and Google your suggested foliar problems, to see if I can ID something.
