And how did it go? I bet he stayed very high level with the lecture and then answered specific questions. Did you get any in? Was the experience helpful? Interesting?

It was pretty awesome, he looks just like his picture on the second book, he was even wearing the same outfit....lol!

It was cool to hear him explain things in detail about how he came up with the idea and then he did answer some questions, I asked him about the bed depth and locations. He did tell me that if you are going to go more than 6 inches something like sand in the bottom is key to weed free and drainage. He said that more shade is better than no garden at all, there are some p;ants that even like some shade.

He spoke quite a bit about the fact that his foundation is non profit and they are going all over the world to introduce this system to help with world hunger. Got my book signed and everything it was good.

That's great SoCal! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure I would have any questions for him. His book is great, though as he states, certainly not all encompassing. I've learned as much from experience and places like here and Ft2Garden.com as I did from his book. Which is saying something for all parties. I still would go though. Going to have to check his site to see if he's coming to the Seattle area.

Awesome! Did he talk about various vegetable growth characteristics or attributes? I can only think of 1 vegetable I would inquire about....hee hee... There's 1 that has a smidgeon of medicinal purposes, and is believed to have saved my father's life when he was a little boy. It would be cool to meet Mel, though.....He'd probably look at my design, and think I huffed paint or something when I was young. Oh well, it works! I'd tell him "I love your method Mel, it's so easy - a caveman could do it"...

That is SO cool! I just tried to read another fairly famous book about gardening called "How to Grow More Vegetables than you ever thought possible on less land than you can imagine". It was SO boring, I barely trudged through it. Also, he has all these stats at the beginning that are incorrect and or unclear. It just made me think that if it wasn't for Mel's book, I would NEVER have ended up gardening. Carolyn
