I'm new to cantaloupe, but I grew honeydew before and had just one vine. I ended up with 10 melons. I did read somewhere that they should be kept off the ground, so I found things around the yard to hold them. You could use inverted plastic pots or take-out food containers. Use your imagination. Just the fruit needs to be off the ground, not the whole vine.

There are botanical differences (besides color) for these cucumber relatives: Muskmelon and Persian melons (c. melo) are in the Reticulatus Group of netted melons, and Honeydew, Crenshaw and Casaba melons (also c.melo) are smooth skinned, and in the Inodorus Group. The true Cantaloupe belongs to the Cantalupensis Group, but usually a type of Muskmelon is what you get as seeds for Cantaloupe. You'll find a huge range of flavor for each type of melon, as well.
