Yes, it sounds like catfacing which happens very often to the first fruits of some but not all large fruited beefsteak varieties that are the first formed.

That's b/c the primary cause for catfacing is pollination at low temps.

Those fruits are fine to eat, and ones to follow should also be fine with no catfacing since pollination would have occurred at more normal temps.
