BER Question

I have some toms with BER. I added some calcuim this weekend (crushed up calcuim tablets into powder and used it with water).

I only had about 1 tom on each plant with BER. My mom picked them off and thew them away. Is this proper? Can you eat a tom with BER? What is the correct thing to do when you find a tom with it?
