How many plants do you have? Are they mulched, and with what material (straw, wood chips, plastic, etc.)

I have about 27 Brandywines and 15 Snow White. The Brandywines are mulched with grass clippings but the snow whites are not mulched with anything.

The reason I asked how many plants you had was because you had indicated 'commercial', and I wanted to see if it was practical for you to mulch.

Since you've got less than 50 plants, I suggest you get a few bales of wheat straw mulch and mulch the heck out of everything. Then you'll be able to water less, which may help somewhat with the cracking. The light color of the mulch won't hurt either.

Another thing that helps is to pick before you water. All ripe and even partially ripe fruit.
