Heather - if I still lived on the farm - you could come and pick more than you could possibly fit in your truck. Now I am trying my hand at pomegranates - I am up to two trees - woohoo! :D If you have an Angel Wing Begonia left - can I get one? I got one at the spring swap and apparently I coddled it to death. :(

Heather, The redbuds plus yellow wood seeds and ginkgo seeds sound great. Also some verbena if you have some left. Sounds like I'd better skip the coralberry. Thanks for the warning on ginkgo--from what I read the females don't fruit for 20 years so that problem can be dealt with when it occurs.
Tiffany, thanks for the bushes. I'll skip the silver maple as I have not had good luck with it in a previous place, i.e., very brittle, lots of dead limbs falling, etc. May not be the same, but I'm hesitant to take a chance. Many thanks for the offer though.

I don't know if I should even bother coming. :-\ I have a handful of succulent babies and maybe one or two other plants to bring, some gardening supplies & thats about it. :( I'd almost feel bad bringing that little & then going around and collecting things I want from others. I can at least bring something yummy to eat! Still don't know if I want to go or not since I have so little to offer this year.

Steve - you should still come. Basically, since you moved and lost alot of your plants in the move, you are starting over as a new gardener again (well new in the sense that you don't have much to offer). When I came in the spring - afraid that I just didn't have much to offer - I was welcomed and encouraged to come anyway - there would be plenty of food and gardening friends and the chance to bring home a few or even alot of plants.

I came - and I made some new friends - had wonderful food - and brought home a vanload of plants!! What a blast!!

So - I will say exactly what was said to me. New and old gardeners are welcome to the swap - come on and enjoy a great day with others that share your love of gardening.

I keep telling myself - it won't be long, and I will have more plants to share than I know what to do with...and there will be more newbies coming to the swaps with the same worries that I have now... And so the cycle goes...

tngreenthumb...the brugs man...you know I have been stalking your awesome plants all summer...

I would like to try a couple of your brugs cuttings if you can advise on the best way to root them. Keep in mind here - I am way south of you, and the weather in the valley is strange. When everyone in Mid Tn is worried about a hard freeze - I am still working with some of my fall veggies outside... I would say put me down for plants - but I would only like to take ones that you might not find homes for. **Any chance you would like to plan a trade for a plumeria at the spring swap? :D Mine is getting ready to flower now...it is a NoID, I don't even know the color yet.

And I would like a multi color butterfly bush, and some black taro elephant ears. Check out my list - let me know if I have anything that might interest you. Oh - and I haven't listed them yet - but I have "coral palm nuts" (at least that is what it was called in Florida). You put the nut in a pot and it will grow a tree. I have one that is only 5 feet tall and it flowered this year. I have been told by many that it never should have flowered at such a young age - but it has. Very cool little tree - I can send you pictures if you would like to see the blooms. My hummingbirds were rather smitten with it this year.

HEATHER!!! Holy moly!!! STEVE - I'll reserve the plants for you :) I'm interested in all sorts of veggie seeds as I enjoy growing my own food, but I'd also love to start offering seedlings for sale at the farmers mkt. So anything and everything! I especially TIFF - You weren't kidding when you said you were interested in herbs - I'll be happy to reserve these for you:)And OHMYGOD am I interested in the white illicium!!! I didn't know they made em that color! But then the mum sound like its perfect in my color scheme... do I have to choose or can I be greedy and take both;)

And I think we all would like to see a pic of your coral nut palm!

JUDY - I'll reserve them for you; if the torenia doesn't want to survive til spring, there are still seeds that can be harvested from the plants.

With Jim's stuff I was planning on bringing some empty envelopes so folks can take what portion they want, and empty grocery bags for the bulbs. I did some research on the konjak bulbs and there is some fascinating info about them being used for food or supplemental dietary fiber.

I'm hoping more folks will come to the swap since it rained like crazy here yesterday. I know Evelyn was coming just for moral support but essentially plantless because the ground is like a brick... the rain could change things:D

At the round robin maybe we could get someone to run over the basics of winter sowing again. I missed the swap they originally taught it at, but Velvet was telling me about it, I did some research and it sounds awesome! If I get to garden in December - SOLD!!!

And absolutely!! Consider both of them yours. And I told you I cooked, so I am trying to build up my herb garden - it's what I do in the winter while my outdoor garden is sleeping. I would love to learn how to garden for most of the year though - hoop house? Is that possible here? A greenhouse would be fabulous but completely out of the price range right now - but a hoop house...hmmm. Maybe someone with some experience can share at the round robin?

Coral palm pics...I still haven't figured out the trick to posting them on gardenweb - I may just have to print and bring them. I normally am not so technically challenged, but this site just sends my mind spinning...

I would love to say my plumie will be blooming by the weekend, but the little bit of cool weather we had last week has slowed it down considerably. Annette! I don't know how I missed you up there! I've got two cherry trees you gave me this spring, so I'm good there... but I'm really excited that you've got chinese foxglove. I don't have this fabulous plant anymore because I sold it at the market last year and didn't save any for myself! What was I thinking?! It transplants and divides so easily, even pulling off the little runners off the side do really well as long as its in the ground for winter. It does extremely well from seed too if you have any. Not that it matters, but what color do you have?

And I don't think I can resist the Fireworks, even though I don't technically like yellow flowers, it's just too cool! What color is your catmint? I've been wanting to replace my Walker's Low with one of the pink varieties for a while now. Gooseneck loosestrife... isn't that the one that people lament about being so pretty but invasive?

ps: Tiff, the purple shamrock (oxalis triangularis)is totally ground hardy even up here near Nashville, so you'll have no problems down in Chatt. It'll go dormant and stay dormant until LATE spring, so be sure and mark it! If you do keep it in the house it'll keep its leaves all winter and even bloom sporadically:)

Steve - I decided to be selfish and keep the Dracunculus vulgaris (blooming size), and justified it since we were the ones that picked them up for everyone else:)

I met your husband today and by now you probably have the seed and bulbs. I hope you enjoy them. There should be enough to share or trade with most of the others at the swap.
The D. vulgaris can be planted now. They will grow in full sun but mine grow better with full morning sun and afternoon shade. Plant them about 6 inches deep and about 18 inches apart. They usually break ground in mid March and go dormant in early summer.

Now Jim, please tell us truthfully, just how bad is the bad smell, like how many days does it last and does just one small patch fill up a whole yard with stench? I'm totally willing to risk it because my neighbors will never know it's me! Typically my place makes the whole block smell pretty nice, whereas a couple days before garbage pickup day can be really unpleasant around some houses. If only people would compost!!! But I digress...

TIFF - The birdseed bundles are like the cornstalk bundles you see for decoration this time of year, except mine are mature birdseed. You guessed it - these grains sprouted underneath my feeders and they looked too cool to pull.

Sometimes the smell is not that bad but this year I had about 10 D. vulgaris blooming at the same time. I have them planted in a bed about 6 feet from my back deck and the smell was really bad. It only last for a few days but they smell like a dead dog that's been on the side of the road for 5 or 6 days in the summer. Yum! They are pollinated by blowflies and carrion beatles.

I just happened to see your post about posting pictures. It's weird because I haven't been reading this thread except for the day after it was initiated and for some reason I just figured I'd click on it and skim quickly through. Anyway, here's how to post pictures....

One of the easiest ways to provide your photo to be embedded into a post is to upload it onto an image hosting site such as Photobucket, Flickr, etc. That should be pretty straight forward, and the individual sites will give instructions on how to get your photos uploaded to their site when you sign up.

Once your picture has been uploaded, find its image location address (URL) by right clicking on the image and copying the image location. Some sites may even provide the appropriate HTML code in a text box below the photo for your convenience. It will be the one that begins with a href=...

Let's say, as an example, that the address of the picture you want to post is http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg

To embed the picture into a post, use the command:
img src="http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg">;
_____________________________________

If your picture is too large to fit nicely into the text page, you can add a width attribute. The command with the width attribute would look something like:
img src="http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg"; width=600>
_____________________________________

Another option is to use a text link which might be beneficial to people on slow connections.

To do this, use the command:

a href="http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg">your text goes here/a>
_____________________________________

Note that I had to use special characters to get the commands above to show up here without turning into pictures, but you can use them as shown (with the correct image web address, of course).
