My newest addition (Pic attached)

Well, I thought the bug I described in my previous post was discusting but this one had me so freaked out I'm still grossed out. I have read many posts about this evil creature but it still didn't prepare me for it's sheer ugliness. I supopose I could be thankful it wasn't covered in white eggs.

My God was this thing ugly. And he didnt stop munching on the leaves until he was cut in half.

Perhaps you meant to say you would be thankful if it **were** covered in the eggs of the parasitic wasp b'c then you'd know that it would be killed without you doing anything. ( smile)

Carolyn, as always, you're correct. But honestly, if I saw the eggs, I may have passed out. And today, I found another hornworm lurking around. I've used Bt twice (7 day intervals) and now I'm really concerned that they will never go away. I assume they have laid eggs, but I can't find them. I must admit, if I see too many more, I may have to give up my garden: thats how huge my bug phobia is. I suppose I should have done more research before I started.

Any one have any idea what the hornworm/fruitworm road ahead may hold?

I'm impressed that with such a bug phobia you were able to take such a great picture. In my garden I've seen hornworm poo (I mean hornworm 'frass'), the hornworm damage and some amber colored eggs on some of my leaves but I'm trying to avoid the hornworm... I think I would have a heart attack! The wind really picked up today and I was out trying to tie up some some loose stems...I had my head and arms stuck deep in the jungle imgagining the whole time that a green worm was going to fall on me...I never knew we had hornworms in Chicago! I don't know what the hornworm/fruitworm road may hold but you're not alone with you phobia. Good luck to you.

Hi griley! Thanks for the response. I did not take that photo. Upon hearing my pitiful request for back-up, my neighbor came over to help:)I'm sure this sounds silly to most and I have no idea where this phobia came from, but squishy, ugly bugs frighten the daylights out of me! And you too are not alone. When I rummage through my plants, I have those same thoughts of something landing on me. After the first creature incident, I dress accordingly: long sleeves, long pants, gloves and a baseball cap. There's also a spray bottle of bug killer nearby.
