Haven't you ever heard of thyme flies?

Brandon - funny!! But seriously, there are so many flies they're just gross. It's strange because alot of natural fly repellent recommendations say to plant strong smelling herbs such as thyme, but my thyme is actually attracting the flies and now they're moving into the bush next to it. I'm thinking of cutting off all the blooms but don't know if that'll hurt the thyme and/or if it's too late to get rid of all the flies now.

Did you see the link I posted? Thyme attracts various types of flies. They are considered beneficial insects for the garden. I'm not sure if removing the blooms will eliminate the flies, but it won't hurt the thyme, if the flies are bothering you and you want to try it.

I have creeping lemon thyme, and I love it! It spreads so well, smells like lemon if you touch it, and just looks great.
Anyway, It is one of the few plants on that side of my house that isn't having a bug issue now, so I can't help.
Regular house flies? Don't know.

Yep! My creeping thyme is a mat of flowers right now and there are dozen of flies on it. They are not, however, houseflies. I have decided they don't bother me as they are pollinators, and frankly, I don't worry about them around my ankles or the dog's feet as much as I would bees. The flowers don't last long anyway.
