critters!!!

Some mammal is eating my toms as they ripen. Big chunks of my brandywines, just as they start turning. I presume raccoons. But maybe rats. Could it be squirrels?

I grow my toms in concrete reinforcing wire cages. This is the first time I have gotten such a concentrated attack. Night after night. I go out each morning to see what they have chomped down on.

Any elegant solutions? Rat traps perhaps? Wouldn't kill the raccoons but might make them think twice. But that might also kill neighborhood cats.
