Is this Homestead Purple verbena, Connie? If so, it just kind of creeps around. While it may spread into a new area, the older bits tend to die out (at least in my garden), so you usually have a plant that is around 2-3 feet wide, no more than a foot high, but it's not in the same spot you left it in last year!! LOL. But I find that charming. :-) Not sure if they are supposed to do that, or if mine just like to roam!

Hey April! The one Evelyn gave me wasn't Homestead Purple, but that is very helpful information because I bought a few of those this spring! I need to decide where those go too, so I'm glad you told me that.

The one I got from Evelyn has a different leaf than Homestead...more elongated, and serrated edge. It almost bites you a little when you touch it. And it's a very pale lilac bloom.

That sounds very cool, Connie. I'd love to see some photos of it if it blooms for you. I wonder which one it is?

I'm still hoping to snag some of the white ones that Ann Bell sometimes has available - those would look lovely in my moon garden.

I did a white garden this year. It is not so full and mature now, but I think I'm going to love it! Next year I'm going to do more filling in with annuals - cosmos and wave petunia.

I have white creeping phlox, white knockout roses (which I reported earlier were not knocking me out, but they are now!), white dogwood, white butterfly bush, vanhouette spirea, Little Henry sweetspire (which is not as white as I'd like so it's moving in the fall), white double rose of sharon, silver mound artmesia, lamb's ear, white bearded irises, white clematis going up a white crape myrtle. I think that's it! :D

My moon garden is only now about to be built - we just finished the garden wall (although gates are still to be put up), so finally all those white and burgundy and pink plants can be planted! but it's going to take a while yet.

Still, I do plan to post some photos of the new wall soon. I'm travelling for work from Sunday through the following Saturday (June 14-20) but I'm hoping to get a bit of work done before I leave and a whole lot of work done after I get back. :-)

Ha! I think I may have found the verbena. Random...I was looking at a seed Web site, and starting clicking names and reading descriptions. This sounds like it, and this is what the leaves look like:

As many geeky plant events that I go to, it is amazing that I never run into this plant.
I don't think it was the one mentioned in the previous post. The one from my yard is a lighter lilac.
Homestead verbena has come and gone in my yard twice but this lilac guy has never considered leaving. I have had it quite a while so it covers a 6'x8' area (under a rose it really clashes with) so I can't give you a good "what to expect in 3 years" estimate.

Thanks Evelyn! I noticed that yours was lighter than that picture. It does look like the same leaves, though...so, I don't know! But it does stay fairly short, right? Groundcover?

It is getting better and better every day. All kinds of little buds on it now. :)

I thought it was shorter but when I checked mine out today some of it was 18" tall. Could just be since it is older and quite a clump and trying to stretch for more sun.
